How to Prioritise Self-Love in Dating

January 22, 2024

Have you ever felt that prioritising yourself first when dating is an essential aspect of having a good and fulfilling relationship life? Dating may be an exciting and rewarding experience, BUT it can also be intimidating and stressful at times.

Does this sound like something you’ve ever said?

“What kind of relationship do I want for myself ?”

“Am I tired of putting my own needs aside in relationships? ”

“Am I tired of constantly sacrificing my happiness in search of love? ”

It’s time to prioritise yourself and discover how true happiness in dating starts with self-love.

In today’s entry, we will explore the importance of prioritising yourself in the dating world. Learn how self-care, setting boundaries, and embracing your own desires can lead to healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

How to Prioritise Yourself While Dating:

1. Know your values and priorities

Take some time to think about the important things —what really matters to you in life and what you’re looking for in a relationship. If you’re up for it, attend workshops or watch videos about personal growth to have a better idea on what you’d like to iron out for your priorities and values. Who knows, you might even learn a thing or two that’s new about yourself!

2. Set boundaries

It’s all about telling people what you’re cool with and what’s a no-go. Like, if you’re not feeling a certain date idea or vibe, it’s totally okay to say, “Hey, let’s switch things up!”

This isn’t about being strict; it’s about making sure you’re comfy and respected. If someone’s not treating you the way you deserve, it’s totally cool to take a step back and say, “Not my scene, bye!” So, embrace those boundaries, and let your dating journey be a total blockbuster! ????

3. Self-care matters

Imagine yourself as a plant—watering and taking care of yourself is like giving yourself sunshine and nutrients. It’s not just a nice thing to do; it’s crucial, especially when you’re navigating the dating world.

“If you don’t love yourself, nobody will. Not only that, you won’t be good at loving anyone else. Loving starts with the self.” —Wayne Dyer

So, whether it’s a cosy night in, a bubble bath, or just chilling with a good book, remember that taking care of yourself is a priority.

4. Communication is Key

Lastly, always be open and honest in your communication.

Do you know that it is imperative to consistently express your thoughts, feelings, and expectations clearly and transparently ?

Dating is supposed to be enjoyable, not a dread, neither should it be draining you. It should make you feel empowered for taking charge of your dating life and being able to openly communicate your feelings without the feeling of guilt or shame. You should always trust your gut instincts, and don’t be afraid to gracefully walk away from situations that make you feel anything less than respected.

Remember, setting healthy boundaries and listening to your heart are your superpowers.

Saying “no” when it doesn’t feel right, trusting your gut and waving goodbye to situations that don’t bring joy are all part of your strengths! Prioritising yourself in dating will ensure that you’re surrounded by partners who reflect the same values.

So, keep being true to yourself, celebrate your victories (big or small), and know that the best chapters of your dating story are still waiting to be written.
